Recap

Day 1 (26 December 2022)

Dublin International qualified for the Final Four of the Men’s Celtic Cup to be played in Scotland in the New Year after two good wins versus Scottish entrants in DCU Sports Arena: a 22-14 victory over Tryst and following on from that win a 29-12 defeat of Kelvinside. In Group 2 Dublin City won 24-23 versus Scotland’s Livingston meaning after Day 1 an Irish side had yet to lose to a Scottish team in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions. [References: 2]

Day 2 (27 November 2022)

On the Sunday at DCU Sports Arena Kelvinside narrowly defeated fellow Scots team Tryst 25-24 to advance to the Final four in second place in Group 1 behind Ireland’s Dublin International. In Group 2 Astra-Wings from Dublin suffered the first defeat by an Irish team to a Scottish one in the 2022-23 Celtic Cup when narrowly defeated 25-23 by Livingston. In the third game in the Group Dublin City Handball took first place with a 25-22 win over Astra-Wings who were the only Irish team, Men’s or Women’s to suffer defeat and not make the Final Four in what was so far an extremely successful tournament for Irish Clubs. Semi-Finals (18 February 2023)

Dublin International HC battled hard but came up short by three goals versus Livingston HC in the first semi-final. Dublin City HC were too strong, however, for a young Kelvinside team and ensured there would be an Irish representative in the Celtic Cup Final. [References: 4]

Third Place Playoff (19 February 2023)

Loud support for Kelvinside HC made sure they were stronger in their second match with Dublin International HC who had won their group game 29-12. This time Kelvinside played with passion and in an entertaining match which was 14-10 to DIHC at halftime the Dublin International Handball Club team won out 27-24. [References: 4]

Final (19 February 2023)

Dublin City represented Ireland in the Men’s Celtic Cup Final after their Women’s team had taken home the Women’s Celtic Cup Trophy earlier in the day. DCH were up against Scottish Champions Livingston HC, and were 19-12 up at halftime after an impressively dynamic start from the Dubliners. Despite Livingston scoring some well worked goals, the Dublin City team continued to dominate and improve their goal difference, winning 36-28 at the end to make it a Men’s-Women’s double for the team and Ireland.
